Christian Tolerance in Alabama

Just when you thought Alabama was one of the most backward states in the union, they elect a new governor that breaks all the stereotypes…well, not so much.

Here’s what newly elected governor of Alabama Robert Bentley said in his inaugural address as read in New York magazine:

Anybody here today who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, I’m telling you, you’re not my brother and you’re not my sister, and I want to be your brother

If Alabama could use anything, it’s certainly not a stark, unyielding Christian Republican separating himself from people of non-Christian faiths within minutes of holding office.  Between Floridians trying to burn the Koran and people freaking out over a mosque a few blocks from Ground Zero, a fanatical Christian in a leading role is NOT a good thing for this nation.
