America: An Old Poem for a Fresh View

The things closest to us are often the things most effectively ignored. I think many Americans are notoriously bad when it comes to this. Not that I am any better than many other Americans, but the I often see pretentiousness that pervades every aspect of people’s lives. I also see some so worried about seeming pretentious that they, through their anti-snobbery, become snobs themselves. Like many of Allen Ginsberg’s works, I think this piece is a healthy dose of reality for many Americans who tend to hold their nation in the highest esteem, and with a dash of comedy as well.
